What Braid believes is the substantive statement of what we are building and why. This page is for people who have read it and want to know what working with us looks like.

§ 02 - What we are building技術

What we are building, and why it is worth your time.

Engineering design is one of the frontier problems in applied AI. To solve it, a system must reason about physics, geometry, and manufacturing simultaneously — and reliably enough that engineers can use the output in real production. This problem will not yield to scale alone. It requires a rare combination of formal reasoning and learning, and people who are deeply comfortable with both.

The work is consequential far beyond the software. The physical geometries generated by our reasoning system, AURA, will sit inside aircraft, vehicles, energy systems, and manufacturing lines. When this works at scale, the pace at which physical things are designed and built shifts fundamentally. Few problems in computing offer second-order effects this direct.

Working at Braid means tackling this problem alongside experts across computer science, computational geometry, physics, mathematics, software engineering and machine learning.

This is not a job for everyone. It is the right job for a particular kind of mind.

§ 03 - What we look for求める資質

What we look for.

A combination of qualities that is rarer than any of them individually.

Technical depth in a core domain.

Most of the work at Braid sits at intersections: computational geometry, physics, manufacturing, and machine learning. We look for individuals with deep mastery in at least one of these fields and the agility to operate effectively at the boundaries of the others.

Comfort with formal reasoning.

Our architecture is built on a symbolic foundation. People who are at home with mathematical structure, formal methods, and rigorous arguments tend to fit. If you view end-to-end deep learning as the only legitimate tool for AI, Braid is likely not the right place.

Autonomy and judgment.

The team is small. There is no one whose job is to tell you what to do at a minute level of detail. The right candidate views high agency and open-ended problems as an asset, not a risk.

Intellectual honesty and rigour.

We expect rigorous technical disagreement backed by sound logic, and an equal willingness to be persuaded by better arguments. Social consensus without analytical grounding is actively discouraged.

Fascination with the physical world.

Engineering design is our domain. The people who excel at Braid care deeply about physical reality: how things are fabricated, their shop-floor constraints, and why one geometry outperforms another. Those who treat the physical application as secondary to their work tend to drift.

We are less interested in —
  • Specific job titles or seniority levels on paper.
  • Pre-existing knowledge of CAD, simulation, or engineering software (we will help you ramp).
  • A career path that has been linear — most of our team has done several different things.
§ 04 - How we work働き方

How we work.

We grow deliberately. We prioritize talent density over headcount, taking our time to find exceptional technical and cultural alignment.

The work requires deep concentration. Engineering problems with this degree of complexity demand long stretches of uninterrupted focus. We actively protect that time: meetings are rare, deliberate, and never scheduled by default. Deep, quiet execution is our primary operating mode.

Most of our collaboration happens in person in our Tokyo office. While occasional work-from-home days are standard practice, primary remote work is not an option for our core team.

English is our primary technical language across research and engineering. Japanese fluency is a strong asset for roles interacting with our local industrial partners and manufacturing clients.

We benchmark compensation against top global technology companies, combining strong base salaries with real equity ownership. We maintain direct, transparent conversations about expectations from our very first interactions.

Japan's manufacturing standard is uncompromising, and so is ours. Building geometry for the physical world requires high-density, in-person technical alignment, not coordination based on asynchronous chats.

Meet the team.

We have published interview-format profiles of many people on the team: their backgrounds, what they work on, and what brought them to Braid. If you are considering whether you would fit here, the team profiles are the most direct way to find out.

Moving to Tokyo.

For candidates relocating internationally, we have put together a guide covering practical questions about Tokyo, Japan, working culture, housing, healthcare, and life with a family. It is genuinely useful and we recommend reading it before our first conversation.
